Arklow Shipping Headquarters.

Ronan MacDiarmada & Associates Ltd provided comprehensive landscape architecture and design services for the new Arklow Shipping headquarters, creating a bespoke scheme that responds to the functional needs and maritime identity of this prominent coastal site. Arklow Shipping, a major operator out of Arklow Port, required a landscape solution that was both practical and reflective of its strong seafaring heritage.
The landscape design integrates durable, low-maintenance materials and coastal-tolerant planting, carefully selected to withstand the challenges of the maritime climate, including high winds, salt exposure, and poor soil conditions. Hard landscape elements were designed for longevity and resilience, while maintaining a clean and cohesive aesthetic appropriate to the industrial setting.
A strong narrative thread runs through the scheme, with site-specific artefacts and features celebrating the company’s identity. These include the installation of a salvaged anchor and custom paving design at the building’s entrance that echoes the bow of a ship—subtle yet striking references that root the site firmly in its nautical context.

RMDA’s approach prioritised usability, sustainability, and visual clarity, delivering a landscape that enhances site functionality while offering a distinct sense of place for staff and visitors alike. The result is a robust and meaningful external environment that reflects both the operational demands and the heritage of Arklow Shipping.
