DIY SOS Tallaght

DIY SOS: The Big Build Ireland has captured the nation’s heart, transforming homes and lives through community, design, and teamwork. Presented by Baz Ashmawy, the show brings together volunteers and professionals to deliver life-changing home renovations in just nine days.
At RMDA Ltd we were honoured to provide landscape design and site supervision for Cayden’s home in Tallaght, focusing on three outdoor spaces and accessibility. For families with additional needs, the exterior environment is just as critical as the interiors – we feel it’s the link between independence and restriction.
Designing Accessible Outdoor Spaces
Our contribution centred on the front and back garden and new courtyard space:
-
Gentle-gradient ramps and safe pathways for wheelchair access.
-
Roadstone paving solutions that combined durability with a clean, welcoming finish.
-
Planting choices that softened hard edges, added year-round greenery, and helped create a warm, family-friendly atmosphere.
Cayden’s Story
Cayden is living with Arthrogryposis and scoliosis, Cayden relies on a wheelchair, but until the build, his home and garden created constant challenges. Working alongside the DIY SOS team and local volunteers, RMDA helped design and oversee new outdoor access routes and planting that have made daily life safer, easier, and more enjoyable for him and his family.
A Memorable Experience
We thoroughly enjoyed working on site with the DIY SOS team over nine intense but rewarding days. It was a privilege to contribute our skills to a project where landscape design had such an immediate and positive impact.
At RMDA, we remain inspired by the experience and committed to creating outdoor spaces that are inclusive, sustainable, and life-enhancing.
