Greystones Marina

The Greystones Marina project marked a major milestone in Irish coastal development, transforming the Old Victorian Harbour through an ambitious public-private partnership between Wicklow County Council and Sisk & Sons/Sispar Ltd. The project aimed to revitalise the harbour with new facilities for residents, boat owners, local clubs, and the coastguard, including a new clubhouse, public square, and marina.

RMDA played a central role in the design and delivery of this transformative development. Their work included the extensive design and construction of the new town square, a 16-acre public park, and the marina clubhouse. RMDA was tasked with creating a sustainable and visually compelling public space that would support recreational, cultural, and residential life around the harbour.

Their scope included landscape design, detailed construction drawings, and on-site supervision for elements such as the public square paving, planting schemes, street furniture, boundary treatments, and car park layout.
A deep understanding of material performance and environmental resilience guided the design. Given the marina’s exposed location on the Irish Sea, RMDA selected robust materials—such as brushed, coloured, and polished concrete, Rimini ground flag, and Kin Stone flag—to withstand coastal conditions and heavy pedestrian and vehicular use.

The result is a carefully crafted, durable, and vibrant waterfront environment that serves the local community and stands as a benchmark in marine landscape design.
